FBA Education Services is an early intervention program that offers a comprehensive range of programming and support for children during their early developmental years. We are dedicated to providing educational opportunities that guide and support the unique needs of each child, helping them reach their full potential.

About FBA Education Services is an Alberta Education approved private community-based Early Childhood Services (ECS) operator. Our program focuses on identifying needs, ensuring children receive appropriate education and support during these critical stages of growth and brain development.

Our Team of Experts

FB Education Services is led by our Executive Director, Dr. Judy Hehr, a certificated teacher with 30+ years of classroom and leadership experience, including roles as a Principal in the Calgary Board of Education and as a School Board Trustee.

Our team consists of highly qualified professionals who specialize in brain development, early childhood education and intervention. These professionals include:

Alberta Certificated Teachers

Our team includes certificated teachers who bring their expertise and knowledge to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment.

Brain Development Technicians

Our BDT’s are trained to work with children with diverse needs, ensuring that each child receives individualized attention and guidance.

Brain & Behaviour Specialists

Expertise in psychology and behavioural analysis that provides tailored interventions and support, fostering positive change and empowering children.

Registered Therapists

We have a team of registered therapists, including Occupational Therapists and Speech Language Pathologists, who provide targeted interventions to support various aspects of a child's development.

Supporting the Educational Journey

At FB Education Services, we offer teacher-directed instruction with access to a comprehensive range of supports tailored to meet the specific needs of each child.

Program Unit Funding (PUF):

Is your child experiencing challenges in speech, language, motor skills, social interactions, cognition, self-help, or emotional regulation? Do they have a medical diagnosis? If so, they may be eligible for Program Unit Funding (PUF) provided by Alberta Education. PUF funding is available for children aged between 2 years 8 months and 6 years old, who have severe delays in development. Eligible children can receive funding for up to 3 years, with the last year intended for Kindergarten.

Mild/Moderate Funding (M/M):

Is your child facing mild to moderate delays in speech, motor skills, social skills, cognition, self-help, emotional regulation or gifted & talented? Alberta Education provides funding for children with mild to moderate delays starting as early as 3 years & 8 months of age, with funding available for a maximum of 2 years, the last year intended for Kindergarten.

English as an Additional Language Funding (EAL):

EAL funding is available for children who are at least 3 years 8 months old as of September 1st and are new to learning English.

Eligibility for Funding

To access funding for our services, the PUF application must be approved by Alberta Education.

Please refer to the following age ranges and service types for eligibility:

  • PUF Support: Children with more than moderate disability/delay, aged between 2 years 8 months and 3 years 7 months.
  • Mild/Moderate Support: Children with mild/moderate delay or those who are gifted and talented, aged between 3 years 8 months to less than 6 years old.
  • EAL Support: Children needing EAL support, aged between 3 years 8 months to less than 6 years old.

Dr. Judy Hehr

Director of Education

Judy Hehr’s entire life has centered around learning and helping others learn. 40 years ago, Judy began her educational career teaching Kindergarten with the Calgary Board of Education. Included in her vast experience in this field, Judy worked as a Specialist for the Early Childhood team, assistant principal and principal. With a Master’s and a Doctoral focusing on early education and young children, Judy is an integral part of the Fueling Brains Academy leadership, and helping the organization to continue our grow and provide the very best in early learning.

Emily Fullmer

Program Manager

Emily Fullmer has over 15 years of experience in early childhood education. With a degree in Psychology and a post-baccalaureate certificate in inclusive education, she is a passionate advocate for children's success and well-being. She firmly believes that every child has the potential to succeed, and regularly stresses the importance of positive relationships in child development.

Do I need to schedule a time for the screening with your team?

No, you do not have to book the screening with our team. We will inform you in advance about the specific days when the multidisciplinary team will conduct screenings at your child's Fueling Brains center.

How much does the program cost?

The funding for our services is obtained through Alberta Education ensuring that all services are fully covered and provided without any cost to your family.

What is the screening process?

Screening Process:

  • Conducted by a multidisciplinary team consisting of a certificated teacher, speech/language pathologist, occupational therapist, and behaviour specialist.
  • Duration: 10 – 20 minutes approximately.
  • Screening takes place during class time while your child attends childcare.
