Our Purpose
Fueling Brains Academy (formerly Kids U) opened its doors to students in 2012. From humble beginnings in a one-room centre to eight campuses in Calgary and Strathmore, serving almost 2000 children, our unique approach to early childhood education has made us Calgary’s top-voted Preschool and Daycare program by Calgary parents, five years in a row.
Throughout our campuses in Canada, Fueling Brains Academy accepts children as young as six weeks, all the way up to six years. Our Infant, Junior Preschool, Preschool and Kindergarten programs incorporate a 3-in-1 curriculum, that includes Left Brain (Montessori-based), Right Brain (Reggio-inspired) and Movement (physical literacy) learning.
For over a decade, we have led the way in brain development research and practice to maximize human potential and build a better world.

Organization Leadership
Faisal Alimohd
Co-founder, CFO
Faisal, is an entrepreneur, proud husband and father to two energetic children. He is a Chartered Accountant/Chartered Professional Accountant and Certified Internal Auditor with over 20 years of varied business experience. Faisal is Fueling Brains Academy’s Co-Founder, Chief Financial Officer and Operations Director. Faisal graduated from the Haskayne School of Business and worked within and managed his own accounting firm before moving his experience into the child care industry.
Judy Hehr
Director, Early Learning & Childcare Services
Judy Hehr’s entire life has centered around learning and helping others learn. 40 years ago, Judy began her educational career teaching Kindergarten with the Calgary Board of Education. Included in her vast experience in this field, Judy worked as a Specialist for the Early Childhood team, assistant principal and principal. With a Master’s and a Doctoral focusing on early education and young children, Judy is an integral part of the Fueling Brains Academy leadership, and helping the organization to continue our grow and provide the very best in early learning.
Kara Dafoe
Acting Director
Starting out as FBA Strathmore’s Program Supervisor, Kara Dafoe led the campus with her highly-qualified background in early learning and childcare. She holds a diploma in Early Childhood Education from St. Clair College in Ontario. With almost 10 of experience in the child care field and a mother to a lively toddler, Kara is passionate about working with children, and strives to build confidence, self-esteem, love and awareness in each child. More recently, she has taken over the role of Enrollment Manager, securing the best care for families across Calgary and Strathmore’s FBA campuses.
Anna Santiago
Communications Director
Anna Santiago began her career with Fueling Brains Academy in 2014, and the organization’s brain-based, child-centered philosophy made it easy for her to fulfill her role in showcasing the uniqueness of our early learning centres to Calgary parents. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, majoring in Journalism, Anna worked as a sports writer and editor before switching to the field of early learning as Fueling Brains Academy’s Communications Director. Anna’s reason for choosing the field of early childhood education can be defined by a quote by Kofi Anan – “Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family.”
