VENEERS
We can give you veneers in Sugar Land Texas at Smiles on Greatwood Dentistry. Veneers are thin shells of porcelain (medical-grade ceramic) or resin that are designed to fit over teeth, giving a natural, attractive look. They are made from material that gives the appearance of natural dental enamel. They are custom made and can be used to correct teeth problems.
These shells can change the color, shape, size, or length of your teeth. They are made in a dental lab by a dental technician.
You would need veneers if you have
- Discolored teeth due to drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes or eating highly pigmented foods.
- Worn down teeth
- Chipped or broken teeth.
- Misaligned or irregularly shaped teeth
- Gaps between your teeth.
Veneers are not suitable for you if you have a condition such as tooth decay, gum disease, or root canal infection. You would need to treat these conditions first before using veneers. It should be noted that getting veneers is a permanent procedure.
Getting veneers requires two visits to our dentistry.
You will have a preliminary appointment with our dentist to discuss your options and how many veneers you want before you get the procedure done. In this visit, our dentist will use X-ray and other techniques to look for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, or the need for root canals. The presence of any of these conditions disqualifies you from getting the procedure done.
If you have none of these conditions, our dentist will begin the procedure. He will remove the enamel of your teeth using a grinding tool to get the impression of the teeth and to make sure that the veneer can be bonded permanently in place later. This impression (mold) of your teeth is then sent to the lab for your veneers to be made. The amount of enamel removed is the same as the thickness of the veneer to be fitted, this is to ensure that the tooth retains its original size.
It will take a few days for your veneers to be ready. When the veneer is ready, you will come back to our dentist’s office to have it bonded with your teeth.
Our dentist will show you the veneer on your tooth before bonding it in place to make sure you are satisfied with it. The bonding is done with a special adhesive that holds the veneer firmly on the tooth.
Your veneers can last for many years. However, note that they are sturdy but also brittle. Just like your natural teeth they can also break or chip. Avoid subjecting the veneers to excessive stress just like you would avoid with your natural teeth. For instance, don’t open beer bottles with your veneers.
